Sperm quality not improved in Fleckvieh bulls using SLC technique
The researchers wanted to see if using a method called single-layer centrifugation (SLC) with Bovicoll could improve the quality of frozen-thawed semen from Fleckvieh bulls. They compared sperm samples that were frozen without SLC to those that were selected with SLC before freezing. After thawing, they found that the sperm quality was not improved with SLC. In fact, the control samples had higher sperm viability, mitochondrial membrane potential, and motility compared to the SLC samples. The SLC samples also had more sperm with damaged acrosomes and fewer rapid and hyperactivated sperm. Overall, selecting sperm with SLC did not enhance the quality of thawed semen from Fleckvieh bulls.
