The Goods and Service Tax (GST) in India aims to simplify the tax system by combining various taxes into one. It will be a value-added tax applied at each stage of production, with credits given for taxes paid in previous stages. This means that end consumers will ultimately bear the tax burden. Unlike the current VAT system, GST will cover both goods and services. By replacing multiple taxes with a single tax, GST will streamline tax compliance, reduce time and costs, and eliminate double taxation.
