Dynamic flood simulation reveals reservoirs' true ability to control catastrophic floods.
The study looked at how river-type reservoirs can control floods better by using a new method to predict dangerous floods. They used data from the Three Gorges Reservoir and created 4,000 simulated floods to see how the reservoir would handle them. The results showed that the reservoir could handle a much bigger flood than the one in 1954. This means that using historical data alone is not enough to plan for floods. By using these new methods, we can better understand how to manage floods in large river-type reservoirs.
