In high-density mango orchards, more light leads to higher yields. Commercial orchards reach maximum yields at 49% light interception, while high-density orchards can produce up to 50 t/ha at 40% light interception. Different tree training methods affect how light is distributed within the canopy. Increasing canopy volume and light interception in commercial orchards doesn't increase profits, but in high-density orchards, yields can increase significantly. High-density orchards have the potential for even greater productivity as they continue to develop.
