New construction technique revolutionizes building of long-span bridges.
The Ji'nan Huanghe rail-cum-road bridge was built using a special technique called incremental launching with suspension cable stiffening chords. This method helped construct the bridge's steel truss girders efficiently. Support structures like assembling supports and pier-side brackets were used during construction. Vertical jack-ups and rectifying devices were also employed. A control system ensured synchronized launching of different sections. Elastic support pads were used to manage height differences in the trusses. Finite element analysis determined safe height difference values. This technique can be useful for building similar long-span bridges.
