Crop burning in northwestern India contributes up to 75% of Delhi's pollution.
Crop residue burning in northwestern India significantly contributes to air pollution in Delhi, with up to 75% of PM2.5 levels during pollution events coming from these fires. This study used a model to show that on average, 20% of Delhi's PM2.5 in October-November is from crop burning in neighboring states. This highlights the need for effective strategies to control both local and external sources of pollution in Delhi.
