Declining precipitation threatens vegetation in arid Chinese river basin.
Water is crucial for life in dry areas. Scientists studied how rainfall affects plant growth in a very dry region in northwest China. They used satellite data to look at rainfall and plant health over time. Rainfall varied a lot in different places and years. From 1999 to 2007, rainfall decreased, but from 2008 to 2015, it increased. Plant health didn't change much, except where crops grew. Overall, there was a moderate link between rainfall and plant health in the area.
