High temperatures threaten soybean yield by reducing flower and pod production.
Global warming affects soybean flowering and pod formation. A study looked at how high temperatures impact the timing and success of flower and pod production in soybeans. They found that hotter temperatures and earlier planting extended the time between the first and last flowers. More flowers appeared in the late flowering period at high temperatures, but most of these did not produce pods. Hotter temperatures reduced the success of pod formation for early flowers, leading to fewer overall pods when temperatures exceeded 29.4°C.
