Revolutionary Tillage Methods Boost Crop Yields and Water Efficiency in China
Conservation tillage methods like rotary tillage can improve soil quality and increase crop yield in dryland areas. A study in China compared different tillage techniques for maize production. They found that a combination of no tillage and subsoiling led to the best results, with improved soil structure, reduced soil density, and increased soil moisture storage. This method also increased organic carbon storage, plant height, dry matter accumulation, and crop yield, with better water use efficiency compared to traditional tillage methods. The findings suggest that a strategic combination of tillage techniques can enhance soil health and crop productivity in arid regions.
