Government spending in Nigeria negatively impacts education enrolment, study finds.
The study looked at how different types of government spending in Nigeria affected education enrollment from 1980 to 2017. They found that capital spending didn't have much impact on enrollment in the short term, except for spending on social services. Recurrent spending had a negative impact on enrollment in the short term, with only spending on economic services being significant. In the long term, recurrent spending continued to negatively affect enrollment, while capital spending had a positive but insignificant effect. The study also found that the government spending didn't fully correct enrollment levels back to normal in the long term.
