Modified Intensive Early Stocking Boosts Efficiency and Profit in Cattle Production.
Intensive early stocking (IES) and modified IES (MIES) systems have been successful in increasing animal production and efficiency on rangelands. A study compared traditional continuous season-long stocking (SLS) with MIES for cow/calf production. The goal was to see how cow and calf growth and performance differed between the two systems. The results showed that using MIES led to increased production efficiency for stocker animals on rangelands, suggesting that adopting similar management practices could help maintain or increase cow numbers for beef production on fewer grassland resources.
