EU Democracy Crisis: National Parliaments Struggle to Address Citizens' Frustrations.
Representative democracy in the EU is facing a crisis of legitimacy, especially due to national governments struggling to address citizens' concerns and achieve unity on common issues. This study looks at how well national parliaments represent their citizens in EU decision-making and examines the state of parliamentary democracy at the EU level. The researchers focus on voting and decision-making processes in selected member states, as well as the 'Europeanisation' of representative democracy. The findings suggest that there are challenges in connecting democratic institutions within and between member states, highlighting the need to improve democratic processes to address current issues in Europe.
