European Stability at Risk: EMU Lacks Democratic Legitimacy Post-Crisis
The paper looks at how well the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in Europe has been working since the financial crisis. It finds that the EMU has faced challenges in being seen as legitimate by the public. New European institutions were created to deal with the crisis, but the original way of making decisions still focuses more on governments and results rather than input from the people. The study shows that even after the crisis, the EMU still lacks enough input from the public to be considered fully legitimate.
