OR walls harbor diverse bacteria, posing risk to newborns during C-sections.
The study looked at the bacteria on the walls of a neonatal operating room to see how it could affect newborns born via C-section. They found that different types of bacteria were more common at different heights on the walls, with human skin being the main source. Bacteria related to human feces were more common on lower walls, while airborne bacteria were more common on higher walls. This shows that C-section babies may be exposed to bacteria from patients, staff, and cleaning.
