Transport sustainability is influenced by how cities are planned. Good urban planning can offer alternatives to driving, while bad planning can lead to more car use. A new method was created to measure transport sustainability using a mix of indicators. By looking at Melbourne in 2006 and 2030, it was found that integrating land-use and transport planning can help cities move towards a more sustainable future. This study shows that careful planning is key to reducing the negative impacts of transportation on the environment, society, and economy.
