Social ties hinder small business success in emerging economies, study finds.
The study looked at how social connections and factors related to small and medium businesses affect the performance of small businesses in a developing country. They surveyed 139 small businesses in two states in Nigeria and found that networking, technological innovation, and number of employees have a positive impact on business performance. However, trust was found to have a negative relationship with performance. The study suggests that focusing on building social connections and implementing effective strategies can help small businesses in emerging economies succeed.
