The study looked at how different amounts of water and fertilizer affected the roots of tomato plants. They found that more water led to more lateral root growth. Most of the roots were concentrated in the top 10 cm of soil. The plants that received the most water had higher yields of ripe fruits. The amount of fertilizer didn't make a big difference in the final fruit yield or sweetness.
