New grass varieties outperform traditional ones in changing climate conditions.
Grasslands need to adapt to climate change, so researchers tested different grass species on different soil types. Festuca arundinacea performed best overall, especially on peat soil. Lolium perenne did well too, but struggled on peat. Phleum pratense didn't do as well on peat, being replaced by other grasses. The type of grass in a mixture affects how stable and productive the grassland is.
