Flood risks in river basins were studied to develop better flood management methods. Two types of flood protection were identified: situational and preventive. Short-term forecasting helps respond to floods as they happen, while long-term forecasting involves building structures to prevent floods. A new method for long-term flood forecasting was proposed, using past flood data to predict future flood damage over the next 99 years.
