Sheep farmers boost profits with superior embryo freezing technique
The researchers set out to figure out the best way for small sheep farmers to use frozen embryos for breeding. They checked if early or more developed embryos, frozen using fast or slow methods, worked best for making lambs. They collected embryos from ewes after superovulation and froze them before transferring to other sheep for growth. They found that using developed embryos and quick freezing gives heavier lambs after 2 months compared to small embryos and slow freezing. This means it's better for small sheep farms to pick the more developed embryos and freeze them fast for improving their flocks.
