Alpine shrublands crucial for carbon cycle in Tibetan Plateau.
The study looked at how much plant material is underground in alpine shrublands on the Tibetan Plateau and how it's affected by the climate. They found that the shrubs store most of the plant material underground, with only a third in the grass. The amount of plant material in the grass is higher in shrublands compared to grasslands. The shrub material increases with more rain, while grass material decreases with higher temperatures. If the area gets warmer and wetter, the amount of plant material underground will change, so it's important to keep an eye on it to understand how much carbon is being stored in the soil.
