Population growth in Nigeria accelerates environmental degradation, urgent policy changes needed.
Population growth in Nigeria is causing environmental degradation. A study looked at how factors like population growth, energy use, GDP, financial progress, and trade impact the environment from 1980 to 2014. The results show that population density, energy resources, and financial progress increase environmental damage, while output growth reduces pollution. In the long run, population growth and financial progress worsen environmental degradation, but trade improves environmental quality. The study suggests that Nigeria should implement policies to control population growth, reduce urban crowding, and educate citizens about environmental protection.
