Groundwater flow model reveals impact of topography on water distribution
Groundwater flow in aquifers is influenced by topography and recharge rates. A study used a model to analyze how water moves between local and regional scales. Results show that recharge affects the size and nature of groundwater flows, with different compartments for local and regional transfers. The volume of water in the regional compartment remains stable despite changes in recharge. The model visualizes 3D water movements and shows how topography controls groundwater flow. The study focused on a specific area in Brittany, France, and compared results using different types of topography.
