Early sowing of winter wheat boosts yield by 28.7%: study.
The researchers studied how the timing of planting affects the growth and productivity of winter wheat on sandy loam soils. They found that planting on September 10 resulted in the highest grain yield, with plants receiving more heat and growing better compared to later planting dates like October 10. Delaying planting by 10-30 days led to a significant decrease in grain yield. Plants sown earlier had higher sugar content and leaf area, contributing to better growth and development. Overall, planting winter wheat on September 10 produced the best results in terms of grain yield in the Polissia region.
