New tropical sweet corn hybrids set to revolutionize Malaysia's agriculture industry!
Researchers in Malaysia spent a decade breeding sweet corn to make better local varieties. They used traditional and modern methods to create 40 new inbred lines with diverse traits. By studying the genes of these lines, they grouped them into five categories based on their characteristics. They then crossed some of these lines to make 25 new hybrids, with some showing higher yields than imported varieties. This work could help Malaysia produce more sweet corn locally.
