Improving surface irrigation in China is crucial to make water use more efficient. Factors like land levelling and system design impact irrigation performance. Currently, surface irrigation is not as controllable as pressure irrigation, leading to low water application efficiency. Key technologies for better surface irrigation include land levelling methods, simulation technology, system design, control systems, and better management practices. Research shows that focusing on these areas can greatly enhance surface irrigation performance, which is vital for sustainable water use in agriculture in China.
