New Study Reveals Cape Cod Aquifer Parameters Impacting Water Management
An aquifer test was done in Cape Cod to estimate hydraulic parameters in a sand and gravel deposit. The researchers used a model to analyze how water flows in the aquifer and measured drawdown in wells and piezometers. They found that gradual drainage from the unsaturated zone affected drawdown near the water table. The estimated hydraulic parameters include specific yield of 0.26, saturated thickness of 170 feet, horizontal hydraulic conductivity of 0.23 feet per minute, vertical hydraulic conductivity of 0.14 feet per minute, and specific storage of 1.3x10-5 per foot. The effects of heterogeneity at the site were minimal, and the estimated values align with previous studies and knowledge of the aquifer.
