Increased US corn-based ethanol production has minimal impact on global land use.
The impact of corn-based ethanol production in the United States on land use in other countries was studied. The researchers found that increasing ethanol production in the US led to higher corn prices, but did not significantly affect corn acreage in countries like Brazil, Canada, Japan, and China. Despite concerns about ethanol production causing deforestation, the study did not find strong evidence of this indirect land use.
