Evolutionary game reveals how cooperation can collapse in society
The study introduces a new game called the accumulated temptation game to explore how temptations evolve among individuals. In this game, individuals accumulate temptations through cooperation but use them up through defection. The researchers found that when the accumulation factor is high, cooperative behaviors can be eliminated. Interestingly, some individuals may cooperate to accumulate temptations but then defect suddenly. The higher the accumulation factor, the faster individuals defect. In random networks, cooperation is more likely when temptations are low.
