Chicken sperm cryopreservation breakthrough could revolutionize poultry farming worldwide.
The researchers wanted to find a better way to freeze chicken sperm by testing different concentrations of a substance called N-Methylacetamide (MA) and thawing rates. They found that using a lower concentration of MA (6% instead of 9%) and thawing the sperm slowly at 5°C for 100 seconds improved the quality of the frozen sperm. This method helped more sperm keep their cell membranes intact, move well, and swim in a straight line after being frozen and thawed. This new approach could make freezing chicken sperm more effective.
