Latin American countries are struggling economically compared to the U.S. due to differences in Total Factor Productivity (TFP). This gap is not because of education levels but inefficient production. The presence of competitive barriers in Latin America is hindering productivity growth, unlike in successful Western and East Asian countries. Removing these barriers can significantly boost Latin American productivity to Western levels.
