The paper compares how regional public goods provided by the EU have helped countries in Central and Eastern Europe transition after communism, compared to global goods like those from the IMF. The EU's support led to better outcomes in democratization, trade, and economic stability. Countries with EU integration showed more progress than those without it. However, there are concerns about the EU's future support for new countries wanting to join. The success of the EU's regional support may not easily be replicated in other regions.
