Land registration may not always lead to increased agricultural productivity. Studies show that there is little evidence to support the idea that formal land registration boosts farming output. In fact, it could even make land tenure less secure. Gender differences in land registration can also create unequal benefits. To improve understanding, more research is needed that looks at local approaches to land management.
