Ancient Submarine Fan System Unveiled in Sabah's West Crocker Formation
The West Crocker Formation in Sabah is part of a large underwater fan system. Researchers studied the sedimentary facies in this area and found seven different types. These include sandstone beds with mud and rip-up clasts, graded beds, laminated sandstones, thin-bedded sandstones with trace fossils, shale-rich units with folds, and fine-grained pelagic deposits. These facies are organized into slope, channel-fill, levee, and lobe deposits, each with their own characteristics.
