Reducing nitrogen fertilizer application while adjusting the timing can increase wheat yield and nitrogen use efficiency. A study compared different nitrogen rates and application times, finding that applying 180 kg N·hm-2 at the fourth leaf stage resulted in the highest grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency. This approach maintained high yield by improving photosynthesis and nitrogen uptake, even with reduced nitrogen application.
