New Solar Index Maps Revolutionize Estimation of Potential Evaporation Levels.
A Solar Index map has been created to estimate potential evaporation in June. This map is used to calculate how much water could evaporate from a specific area. The researchers used a method called the modified Blaney Criddle method to create these maps. The maps have a spatial resolution of 1km2 and are available for each month. The Solar Index maps were estimated from GTOPO30 DEM data and are in ArcGIS ASCII grid format. The Solar Index is calculated using GIS GRASS software.
