Heavy metal pollution in Taihu Lake poses serious health risks.
The study looked at pollution from heavy metals in river sediments in the western area of Taihu Lake. Samples were collected from nineteen sites during different water periods. Results showed that Zn, Cd, Cu, Ni, and Pb levels were higher than standard values. Cd had moderate pollution and ecological risks, with a significant impact on overall risk. Sediments had a 15%-29% chance of being toxic. The S2 site had the highest levels of heavy metals. The study suggests that heavy metal pollution in the Taihu Basin needs to be controlled.
