Scientists debunk myth of widespread desertification, call for policy change
Desertification is land degradation in dry areas. Early studies exaggerated the problem, leading to the creation of a UN convention. Recent research shows desertification is not as severe as once thought. Science sees it as a local issue, not a global crisis. However, policymakers still view it as a major problem. There is a need for better communication between science and policy to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 15.
