Turkey's Provinces Struggle with Inequality and Low Education, Hindering Human Development
The study calculated human development indices for Turkish provinces between 2009 and 2018 to understand how well each area is progressing. The aim was to assess education, income, and overall development at a local level using methods from the UN. Results showed that provinces made progress in human development but didn't reach a very high level yet. Low education levels in provinces were the main obstacle. Even though disparities in education and income between regions and genders have reduced, they are still significant. The most developed provinces were Ankara, Istanbul, and Kocaeli, while the least developed were Van, Şanlıurfa, and Ağrı. Currently, no province has achieved a very high human development level when accounting for inequality, with Hakkari experiencing the highest loss due to inequality.
