Optimal irrigation strategy boosts wheat yield and water efficiency significantly.
The researchers studied how different levels of supplemental irrigation affect water use and sunlight absorption in wheat. They tested five irrigation treatments on winter wheat and found that the treatment with irrigation at specific stages resulted in higher grain yield and water use efficiency. The treatment with irrigation at 70% soil moisture level during wintering, 65% at jointing, and 70% at anthesis was the most effective for achieving high yields and efficient water use in wheat.
