The study looked at how a free trade agreement in Southern Africa would affect countries in the Southern African Customs Union. They used a computer model to see the costs and benefits for each country. The results showed that South Africa would benefit the most, and most gains could come from reducing trade barriers with other countries. This means that South Africa is very important in any trade agreement in the region.
