Hooded Crane habitats at risk: Wetlands face escalating ecological danger.
The study looked at the habitats of Hooded Cranes in Xinqing Wetland and Shengjin Lake Wetland in China. By using landscape ecology and geostatistics, the researchers analyzed changes in the land landscape and identified the main breeding and wintering habitats of the cranes. They found that the ecological risk in the study area increased from 1986 to 2018, with both wetlands moving from low to medium ecological risk levels. The ecological risk value of Xinqing Wetland rose from 0.3777 to 0.5882, while Shengjin Lake wetland increased from 0.2706 to 0.5709, with Shengjin Lake showing a higher growth rate. To protect the wetland environment and the Hooded Crane habitat, the researchers suggested specific actions to be taken.
