Brown manuring boosts rice yields, slashes weeds, and saves farmers money!
Brown manuring with Sesbania aculeate and nitrogen fertilization were studied in direct wet seeded rice fields. The Sesbania crop added nutrients to the soil and reduced weed growth in the rice fields. This led to an increase in rice grain yields, especially when no additional nitrogen was applied. Overall, the combination of brown manuring and nitrogen fertilization can improve rice production and reduce weed-related costs for farmers.
