Climate change reshaping land cover in central Himalayas, impacting biodiversity.
The central Himalayas, specifically the Mt. Qomolangma region, have a diverse range of land cover types due to altitude differences. Researchers used different methods to divide the slopes and found that the southern slope has more varied land cover types across a wider range of elevations compared to the northern slope. The main land cover types found were forests, grasslands, sparse vegetation, bare land, and glacier/snow cover, each with distinct distribution patterns at different elevations. The sector method was found to be the most effective in reflecting the natural distribution of land cover types in the region.
