Diabetes Breakthrough: Catalpol Restores Heart Health, Slashes Oxidative Stress
In this study, researchers looked at how a natural compound called catalpol could help protect heart cells in rats with type 2 diabetes. They fed rats a high-fat, high-sugar diet and then gave them a diabetes-inducing injection. The rats were split into groups and given different treatments, including Catalpol at varying doses, metformin, or just water. After 12 weeks, they found that Catalpol helped lower blood sugar levels in diabetic rats, increased the levels of a protective enzyme called SOD in heart tissues, decreased harmful molecules like MDA, and improved heart function indicators like E/A and E/E'. This suggests that Catalpol could be beneficial in reducing oxidative stress, boosting heart health, and safeguarding heart cells in type 2 diabetes.
