Anesthesia Drugs Severely Impair Male Fertility, Warn Experts
The researchers looked at how sevoflurane and propofol affect the movement and readiness of human sperm. They took sperm samples and treated them with these drugs at normal clinic levels. After 5 hours, they found that both drugs reduced sperm movement and readiness in a dose-dependent manner. Sevoflurane had a greater impact than propofol on both sperm movement and readiness. This study shows that these drugs, at the right levels, can weaken sperm's ability to move and get ready for fertilization. It suggests that sevoflurane is more powerful in this regard than propofol.
