Water and nitrogen stress impact coffee plants' growth and productivity
The study looked at how lack of nitrogen and water stress affect young coffee plants. They tested five different coffee varieties under different conditions. Water stress made the plants use water less efficiently and reduced their ability to photosynthesize. Lack of nitrogen affected the plants' ability to transport electrons and their maximum photosynthetic efficiency. Some varieties coped better with water stress, while others were less affected by nitrogen deficiency. Overall, short-term water stress had a bigger impact on the plants than nitrogen deficiency.
