Exports not driving economic growth in Asian NICs, domestic industries key.
The article investigates the relationship between exports and economic growth in four Asian countries. By using two different tests, the researchers found that the causality between exports and GDP varied among the countries. While one test showed a feedback relationship, the other test indicated no direct link between exports and GDP, except for Hong Kong where GDP influenced exports. This suggests that the economic growth of these countries is not solely dependent on export promotion but also on domestic industry growth and import substitution.
