Diallyl Sulfide Shields Lungs from Deadly Paraquat Poisoning
The scientists wanted to see if a substance called diallyl sulfide (DAS) could help protect the lungs from damage caused by paraquat poison. They tested this by giving rats paraquat poison and then treating some with DAS. They found that rats treated with DAS had lower levels of a harmful protein in their lungs compared to rats that didn't get DAS. This suggests that DAS could help reduce lung injury caused by paraquat poisoning.
