Obese rats lose weight and improve health after sleeve gastrectomy.
The researchers studied how weight changes in obese rats after sleeve gastrectomy are related to changes in a type of bacteria called LPS in their bodies. They measured the weight, glucose tolerance, and insulin resistance of the rats before and after surgery. They found that rats who had the surgery lost weight and had lower levels of LPS in their bodies, while rats in the sham operation group gained weight and had higher levels of LPS. The type of bacteria in their feces also changed after surgery. This suggests that changes in LPS levels may be linked to weight changes in obese rats after sleeve gastrectomy.
